Delia Walvoord was the youngest child of Gerrit Jan and Anna Maria Engel Nolten Walvoord. She was born April 15, 1856. She was just three-months-old at the time her father drowned in Lake Michigan.
On April 15th, 1865, Delia’s ninth birthday, the President of the United States died from a gunshot wound to the head he had received at Ford’s Theater in Washington D. C. the night before.
Delia married Frank Lawson on January 1, 1877 and lived on a farm in Chester, Iowa. She had at least two sons, John and Herbert.
When Delia’s husband Frank had gone insane her mother, Anna Maria whose children were all grown, moved to Chester to help with the farming until the Lawson boys, John and Herbert, became adults. Anna Maria Walvoord lived there until she was nearly eighty-years-old.
Delia died April 25, 1914 in Fillmore County, Minnesota. Frank died about March 23, 1922 in Rochester, Minnesota.
