  1. I had the priveledge of having J F Walvoard as one of my instructors at the Dallas Theological Seminary–great teacher, great man. I also noticed in my ancestry study that the first generation of Van Diests in America was a couple named Gerrit Van Diest who married Trientje Van Beek who apparently came during the Civil War years. They had 11 children. The first one was Gertrude born 1/8/1846. The second one was Albert born 7/20/1848. He married Toni Walvoord. They apparently settled in Kansas/Nebraska area. So I feel a bit connected through that relationship, even though it was Albert”s younger brother John who was my great great grandfather. –John Van Diest
